why I became a teacher

My philosophy centers on creating inclusive and stimulating educational experiences that empower children to explore, learn, and grow. This portfolio is a testament to my adaptability and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds and contributing positively to their foundational years.

my philosophy

I believe that children learn best through play. In early childhood education playing is learning. Learning through play is not only enjoyable, but meaningful, joyful, and full of hands on experiences. Through play children are able to participate and be a part of their own learning. They explore real world situations, express and share ideas, take risks, solve problems, and build real relationships with their peers. As a teacher it is my job to create an environment where each child feels welcomed and comfortable, where they can learn, play, and engage with others in a respectful way, and grow to their fullest potential.

While teaching in a daycare setting I really grasps on to high scope play based curriculum. In this type of curriculum we value active learning, with hands on experiences. Children are able to plan, and make choices, and have free time to explore their own thoughts and ideas. I believe that children learn best this way. I incorporate the plan do review process in the classroom. This helps children to be confident, independent, and think on their own.

I will always listen to children's ideas and interests. The learning environment, and activities we do will be based off of this. The classroom layout will be inviting, and open for children to come in and play. Open ended play will be a big part of this classroom. Different materials can be used for different things, and materials can be taken throughout the room and played with how ever the children desire. Families are also a big part of the classroom, I love to focus and learn about the diversity in our families, and involve that in our classroom as well. While working together with parents I am better able to educate and support each child in my classroom.

In the end my goal as a teacher is to support each and every child. I want to be able to do what's best for everyone and facilitate learning in a fun, hands on, and meaningful way. By using play based learning, and the high scope curriculum I am able to encourage children to be independent, curious, and confident, and build their love for learning.
